Philippine Update

We’ve received some positive response to our appeal for the Philippine Typhoon relief.

When Bob heard about the great need of the people in the Philippines who have lost so very much, he decided not to buy Linda a Christmas present but instead send the money to the Philippines where HER Christmas present would be really appreciated.  When Linda found out about it, she said, “Well…if he’s not going to buy me a Christmas present then I’m not going to buy him one either.  I’ll just put Bob’s Christmas gift dollars in the offering that the Pineville (LA) Christian Church is taking up the next two weeks for the Philippines.”  As a result Bob is happy, Linda is happy, the people in the Philippines are happy, everybody is happy, happy, happy!!  Bob told me to tell you “Go and do likewise!”

The Pineville Christian Church (LA) took up a one Sunday offering for the Philippines of $5600!!  They are giving Church members another two weeks to give their gifts.  This money will go a long way toward rebuilding the Bible College on the island of Leyte.

Burt decided he’d buy a water well for his Christmas gift to Mary Lou. Mary Lou decided she’d buy a generator as her Christmas gift to Burt to be used to get the Bible College on the island of Bohol up and going.  The money has been sent to the Philippines and the water well is being dug. That is a good idea you might want to copy.  Just imagine a swath 70 miles wide where almost everything was destroyed.  Houses made out of bamboo & thatch blown down, churches with roofs ripped off, banana & coconut trees blown over and the rice crops devastated.  It’s hard for us Americans to visualize the lost and destruction for so many in the Philippines.  The idea of foregoing Christmas gifts to each other and sending the money that we would spend on each other to help those in the Philippines is a good idea.  That needs to be emulated.

A number of others have been sending in gifts for the Philippines.  Rice and water is being handed out there.  Repair on homes and churches with lesser damage is being done.  Ed and crew are going to the Philippines in January to take care of the larger projects.

Please send your Philippines’ gifts to Church Growth Ministries.  We’ll send them on to Ed Thomas, World Mission Builders Director and he will send it directly to the point of need.
